Jūsan Mairi is a celebration for those who are 13 years of age. The age is counted in Kazoedoshi (Eastern Age).
Historically, reaching age 13 marked one’s coming of age, allowing children to wear an adult-sized Kimono. This age is special because the zodiac sign for the year they turn 13 will be the same as the zodiac sign of the year they were born.
Following the traditional lunar calendar, the shrine visit for Jūsan Mairi is is traditionally made between March 13 and May 13 on the Gregorian calendar. However, you may request the Jūsan Mairi Ceremony at any time.
shrine visitors pray for good fortune and the healthy growth of those being celebrated.
