Baby Blessing to celebrate the birth of a newborn.
The Hatsumiya Mairi, or Omiyamairi, is the first shrine visit of a child. After the child’s birth, they are brought to a Shinto shrine for worship, to show gratitude for their safe delivery, and to pray for the child’s health and growth. The first shrine visit takes place at least one month after the birth of the child, and customarily the parents and the paternal grandmother of the child arrange a suitable date to visit together.
