Once the pregnancy has stabilized around the 5th month, it is customary for pregnant people to visit a Shinto Shrine on a Day of the dog and pray for safe childbirth. The maternity band (Iwata-obi) is also brought to be blessed to ensure protection for the rest of the pregnancy. This ceremony includes a “safe birth” or ” good health” omamori. A visit record and milestone album for the baby may also be added to this gokito.
