Shikinen-sai (Anniversary Ceremony of Passing) 式年祭

On the 3rd, 5th, 10th, 20th, 30th, 40th, 50th, 100th annual and future centennial anniversaries of the ancestral spirit, rituals are performed. In this ceremony, the family shows gratitude and pays respect because without them the family would not exist. 

The ritual by the Shinto priest includes a purification ceremony, the reading of prayer, and the offering of a sacred branch in addition to rice, salt, water, and sake as well as seasonal foods and the favorite foods of the ancestors.
