初午祭 Hatsu-uma-sai,祈年祭 Kinen-sai (春祭 Haru-matsuri)

ONCE A YEAR!

On Tuesday, March 19th, 2024, at 7 PM PST, the Shinto Shrine of Shusse Inari in America will hold 初午祭 Hatsu-uma-sai, and 祈年祭 Kinen-sai (春祭 Haru-matsuri / Spring Festival) on YouTube livestream.
Hatsu-uma is the first day of the horse in the 2nd month, is the day of the founding of the first Inari Shrine. 
Kinen-sai celebrates spring’s arrival, and we pray for blessings of planting seeds of grains and vegetables, as well as for our dreams and achievements.

In the 春祭, we present offerings and communicate our gratitude to nature spirits and ask for good fortune as well as our determination of working hard and making harmony in the world.

In the 祈年祭, we present offerings from ocean, river and field, then we ask nature spirits for good weather for bountiful harvest, farmers safety, as well as prosperity and development of various business. Also we communicate our determination of dream come true, our commitment of working hard and living with harmony with other people.

祈年祭’s 漢字 is Pray, Year, Matsuri. So that we pray good year, which means bountiful harvest for not only foods but also various industries as well as our dream at the autumn.

When you visit a Shinto Shrine, the custom is to put some Osaisen into the donation box.
